An Out Of Season Break? Oh, And Teenagers…..

So the main holiday season has come to an end and our children are on their way back to school (thank goodness I hear you cry).
Firstly, I would like to say that if there is anyone out there who can now get away on holiday to Cornwall, then it is most definitely the right time to do it. The roads are quieter, the restaurants are quieter even the Cornish and the few holiday makers in Cornwall are more chilled, the hedges have been trimmed so your car will fit down the narrow lanes, so sit down and take a look, Autumn and Spring are, in my lowly opinion are the very best times to visit us.  Ruby Farmhouse Holiday Cottages

As for all us Mums who are now stuck at home because we have children of school age, look on the bright side, for 8 hours a day, they are now busy in school and not costing you time, money and a great deal of your patience to keep occupied. For those of us with teenage girls we can smile even more as we will have a few hours in the day in which to recover from whatever hormonal onslaught we have had to endure each evening as these “young ladies” learn to deal with their hormones from hell, fashion, whether they have any friends on a particular day, whether their bum looks big in this etc etc, the list goes on. By now you will have guessed I am one of the “lucky ones” who is fortunate enough to be experiencing this joy. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t have it any other way, honest. But even I of chilled deposition, humph, need time each day to pick myself up, dust myself off and put the smile back on my face for my delightful daughter. It should help to know I’m not the only one going through this, it doesn’t. It should help that I’m not the teenager, it doesn’t, but it does help that I like a large glass of red of an evening and the knowledge that I have more than earnt it.
The thing that confuses me most is that I don’t remember being this awful at 13, is that selective memory on my part do you think? Or is being a teenager harder this day and age? Social media doesn’t help, I know that much. Has the world around these kids of ours changed so very much that they have to take even more out on those closest to them than we did in our youth? So many questions, not many answers, best I pour myself a large one.
